Carpark Upgrades to Enhance Customer Experience

Updated: 7 hours ago

Upgrade works are set to begin next week at Bay of Islands Airport, Kerikeri, with improvements focused on the public carpark exit area. The works are expected to take around four weeks to complete.

These upgrades are part of our ongoing commitment to continuously improve the customer experience at the airport. The changes follow a full year of operating the new carpark management system, with valuable customer feedback helping to shape this next stage of improvements.

Key updates include the addition of a second exit lane to improve traffic flow and reduce wait times, along with an extended free parking period – increasing from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. The new time allowance will make it easier for visitors to pick up and drop off passengers, providing greater convenience for all users.

Throughout the upgrade period, all carparking spaces will remain available, and clear signage will be in place to guide drivers safely through the area.

There may be short periods where the carpark exit barrier remains open while new connections are installed. This should only last a day or two, and customers should continue to use the car park as normal — please pay at the ticket machines before exiting.

On Thursday, 16th October, the barriers and cameras at Bay of Islands Airport will not be operating. In order to ensure customers are not incorrectly charged, an operative will be taking manual photographs of rego plates from vehicles entering and leaving the airport. We expect the barriers will be fully functional again on Friday 17th October.

Customers who do not pay at the ticket machine before exiting may still incur additional parking charges, so please ensure payment is made to avoid any issues.

Bay of Islands Airport apologises for any inconvenience these works may cause and appreciates the public’s patience while we complete these important improvements.

These upgrades represent another step forward in ensuring Bay of Islands Airport continues to provide a safe, efficient and welcoming experience for everyone travelling through the region.
