More than 48,500 batteries, power banks, hair straighteners, curling irons and e-cigarettes/vapes have been removed from checked bags so far this year.  If you are flying somewhere - make sure you and your items arrive safely by packing smart.

You must pack all spare lithium batteries in your carry-on only. Lithium batteries power many everyday items like power banks, vapes, earbuds, hearing aids, power tools and drones.

To travel with Battery powered Hair Straighteners, Battery powered Hair Curlers or any other Battery powered hair styling devices - the heating element must be isolated by removal of:

  • the battery; or

  • the heating element; or

  • some other component, e.g. a flight ready tag, that isolates the battery.

Note:

  • If a battery-operated hair straightener/curler does not have a method of isolating the battery and the heating element by removal of a component the hair straightener cannot travel.

  • Hair styling devices that have a plug attached and use mains power to operate, can travel in either checked or carry-on baggage.
