Owned and operated by Far North Holdings, Bay of Islands Airport is an important part of their broad portfolio of commercial assets, infrastructure and activities.
This portfolio also includes the management of Kaitaia Airport, ensuring both airports play a vital role in supporting regional connectivity and economic growth.
Over the years, Far North Holdings has secured significant investments, including the construction of two new apron stands to accommodate a greater number of aircraft arrivals and departures, as well as the rebuilding of the terminal to support future growth. Together we are dedicated to ensuring the resilience of our district’s key infrastructure.
Supporting & Protecting our region
At Bay of Islands Airport, we serve as the designated Place of First Arrival Authority under the BioSecurity Act (1993) and hold similar status with New Zealand Customs. This allows us to provide quarantine clearance for international flights, typically private or charter flights with up to twelve passengers, right at the airport. This service boosts the local economy by supporting businesses like taxis, buses, and accommodation providers.
Additionally, we are a Lifeline Utility Authority under the Civil Defense and Emergency Management Act (2002), ensuring the airport remains operational during emergencies for fueling and as a base for emergency services and evacuations.

Tyler Ngapo
Airports Manager
Tyler Ngapo has served as Airports Manager since 2025, bringing over a decade of aviation leadership and operational experience from senior aircrew and instructional roles in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
He has led aircrew teams on global missions, overseen safety and performance, and developed training systems to strengthen capability and readiness. Tyler’s aviation expertise and practical leadership support safe, efficient and future-focused airport operations.
Rob Binney
FNHL COO
As Chief Operations Officer, Rob is in charge of managing and overseeing the Far North Holdings property portfolio, including Bay of Islands Airport.
Before FNHL, Rob was CEO of Kapiti Coast Airport Holdings Ltd, and has significant experience with Doha and Hamad International Airports, Auckland International Airport, and various New Zealand property companies
Andy Nock
FNHL CEO
Andy Nock has served as CEO at Far North Holdings since 2011. Applying his extensive expertise in property and infrastructure development to foster significant partnerships and lead innovative projects throughout Te Tai Tokerau.
His experience includes leading roles at Auckland International Airport Ltd and Real Property Consultants in Europe.
